Back to School Youth Fest

Saturday August 8, 2015 10:00am - 2:00pm

The MLK Sr. CRC along with its Collaborative Partners and Community Partners hosted the Annual Back to School Youth Fest to support studens, teachers, faculty and parents of Hope Hill Elemenary School.

We educated Hope Hill Elementary School Families of the services offered at the Martin Luther King Sr. Community Resources Collaborative.  Parents learned of great programs for them and students were provided book bags with school supplies and school uniforms.  Families enjoyed a great day of fun and enjoyment with a cook out and children's activities that included STEM related demonstrations, health information, and free services to support families in need.  The children enjoyed a demonstration by the Fire Department and were able to climb aboard the fire truck.  The bouncy houses were a big hit as children thrilled themselves with every trip up to the big slid.  Outdoor games and activities were among the favorites.  We are thankful to the Well Ministry, Hope-Hill Elementary School PTA for their amazing support and generosity. There were over 185 people in attendance and a total of 300 book bags with supplies given to help students enter school ready to learn..  To see more pictures: click here.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance - Tax Preparation

January 2018 - April 2018

The Martin Luther King Sr. Community Resources partnered with the United Way of Greater Atlanta to host the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program.  The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) provides free tax preparation services and asset building resources to working families with moderate to low incomes.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax help to people who generally make $54,000 or less, persons with disabilities and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals.  The MLK Sr. CRC Staff executed the program with great service and efficiency. We are grateful to the United Way and the numerous volunteers who helped serve over approximately 1400 individuals and made the tax season a success.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance - Tax Prep Events

Saturday, April 11, 2015 and Wednesday, April 15, 2015  10:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m.

The MLK Sr. Community Resource Collaborative served as the host for a "Beat the Deadline" and "Midnight Madness" events.  Nearly 400 individuals showed up for this last minute help.  This event was done in conjunction with United Way of Greater Atlanta, and GA-1 AARP Tax Aide and Ebenezer Baptist Church.  This event provided much needed help to individudals who put off filing for various reasons.

Many individuals may be daunted by the IRS forms and not aware of tax credits for which they may qualify.  Some individuals simply have questions about taxes in general.  It was a great event for serving the community and providing great education to tax payers.  Our event was attended by long term resident, Helene Mills, an 87-year old longtime community activist, resident and retired IRS employee of 25 years.  The MLK Sr. CRC Staff executed the event with great service and efficiency. We are grateful to the United Way and the numerous volunteers who helped make the event a success.   To see pictures: click here.
